19-year-old BCA student ends his life at CGC Landran, reserved hostel keeper
A 19-year-old Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) student, Landran, ended his life by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his hostel room on the college premises on Thursday night.
After his father alleged that hostel manager Naveen Kumar harassed his son for months, police convicted Kumar of inciting suicide.
The deceased, from Gaya, Bihar, was a freshman in the Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) course at the college.
Investigator Balwinder Singh said on Thursday evening, when he had not come to dinner, his friends went to see him in his hostel room and found him hanging from the ceiling fan.
The students alerted the police, who attended the scene and took down the body. No suicide note was found at the scene.
But his father, a retired military man who now runs a business in Ranchi, Bihar, filed a statement, alleging that for three months the hostel attendant had been harassing his son and even used to call him in her room late at night. .
The father also alleged that his son was murdered because he would never kill himself.
“We booked the hostel manager, Naveen Kumar, for inciting suicide under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code at Sohana Police Station on the statement of the father of the deceased. Further investigation is ongoing,” the investigator said.
The father said his son was brilliant in his studies and wanted to become a computer engineer. The deceased is survived by his parents and a younger brother, a student in class 12.
Police moved the body to the Mohali Phase 6 Civil Hospital morgue, where an autopsy will be carried out on Saturday.

On Friday, the autopsy was performed at Mohali Civil Hospital and the body was handed over to his parents, who arrived from Bihar.
