Former MLA hostel chalets to be demolished, members urged to leave

Guwahati: All the old quarters, cottages and hostels of the Legislative Assembly of Assam will soon be demolished and new residential buildings will be built over them.

Assam Legislative Assembly authorities have issued a notification urging residents of several cottages which are very old and need to be repaired or rebuilt.

Members currently residing in these cabins and the new MLA hostel have been ordered to vacate by July 20.

However, the notification also states that members will receive an amount of Rs 50,000 as rent allowance until the new buildings are constructed.

The amount will be paid to members from the date they leave the cabins or lodges until the project is completed.

The cabins and new MLA hostel are scheduled to be demolished by August 22.
