Man pleads guilty to filming woman showering at hostel in Kuching

KUCHING (February 16): A restaurant kitchen assistant pleaded guilty in the Magistrates Court here today to insulting a woman’s modesty by staring at and filming her showering.

The accused, Simon Ragon, 31, of Kampung Ma’ang, pleaded under Section 509 of the Penal Code after the charges were read to him.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar sentenced the accused to a fine of RM2,500 and, failing that, five months in prison.

The incident is believed to have happened at 12:51 p.m. on February 12 at a hostel in Jalan Tun Jugah here.

Based on the facts of the case, the victim’s friend realized that the attacker was quietly filming her showering through the bathroom window using a camera connected to her phone .

The victim’s friend then filmed the attacker in action.

Immediately afterwards, the victim’s friend informed her employer who then caught and brought the accused to the police station.

We learn that the man had committed the crime out of spite after being rejected by the victim.

The accused, who was unrepresented, had not yet paid the fine at the time this report was filed.

The prosecutor handling the case was Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang.
