NEET aspirant dies by suicide in hostel room in Rajasthan Kota Hindaun City Police Karauli

New Delhi: A class 12 student, who was preparing for the NEET exam in Kota, Rajasthan, died after hanging himself in his hostel room on Wednesday, police were quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

The incident happened Tuesday night in Landmark City under the Kunhari Police Headquarters.

No suicide note was recovered from his room.

Police recovered the body Wednesday morning and released it to family members after an autopsy later that day.

The victim was identified as Devender Kumar Singh, 20, a resident of Hindaun town in Karauli locality in Rajasthan.

He was a class 12 student and has been preparing for the test at a local institute since September last year, Inspector Ganga Sahay Sharma said.

The reason for this move remains to be determined and the victim’s file in the hostel as well as in the coaching institute is being examined, the controller said.

This is not the first case of suicide by a NEET aspirant, in January a young woman from Bihar also took such action after she failed the NEET exam and then committed suicide by hanging herself on the ventilator.

Devnandan Prasad, the father of the deceased said his daughter Jahnavi was preparing for the NEET exam. Last year, she also couldn’t pass the exam.

In September 2021, a 17-year-old girl also took her own life for fear of failing the crucial entrance exam, police said. It was the third suspected suicide of a NEET aspirant in four days, and adds to dozens of deaths since the introduction of the common entrance exam for medical courses in 2017.
