OAU leadership questions hostel owner over student’s death

Authorities at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife questioned the owner of the private hostel, BVER, where a second-year student from the Department of Linguistics and African Languages, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Miss Ajibola Heritage Ayomikun lost his life after falling into the hostel’s septic tank through an opening that was allegedly not properly covered last Wednesday.

Prior to her death, the deceased was living in the private hostel of the interviewed owner and school authorities said they were awaiting her response to the incident.

The institution’s public relations officer, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju, who made this known through a statement in Osogbo, further disclosed that the Criminal Investigation Department of the Osun State Police Command Nigerian has taken over the investigation into the circumstances that led to his death.

“The unfortunate incident, which occurred on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, saddened the university leadership and described it as tragic, devastating, unfortunate and unacceptable,” he said.

The statement stated that “all student village hostels are privately owned and not under the control of the University. The university management currently only has supervisory functions over these private hostels. »
